Introduction to Issue 43 • Light

All light we see, and by which we see all things, has been on a journey. The poets in issue 43 of Eye to the Telescope–these brilliant poets–took me on a journey as well. And what perfect timing, with the dark, selfish days we’ve been through and those that are–even for an optimist such as me–likely still on the horizon.

If anything is eternal, it is light. From the creation of time and space to the end of both, these visionaries shared their hearts, their minds, and their skills, bringing light’s frigidity, its heat, its hate, its tenderness. Down into the depths of the sea, the depths of doubt, and into the hope and illumination of a flame, of the stars, both distant and just 8 minutes away: these 18 poets captured captivating snapshots at every stop along the road.

When I put out the call for light poems, I had ideas in mind. These poets, and all who submitted, went above and beyond my expectations. What a gift it’s been to read their light.

I hope this issue is a gift to you as well, wherever you are in your travels.
